Grey Horse Press Release #3
NATIVE COUNTRY MUSIC - June 20, 2016. For Immediate Release.
Grey Horse to release first CD on July 8 with pre-order currently available. Rick “Casper” Rawls produces Grey Horse CD with all-star collaboration. Originally planned as an acoustic duo effort between Sam and Casper, this CD quickly accelerated to a full band production -- including remotely recorded sessions.
Casper and Grey Horse performed together scores of times, but very early in their playing together Casper claimed dibs on recording Toksha Ake Kola. This Native anthem written by Grey Horse erupts with raw untethered emotion providing a signature track for Casper’s guitar work on the CD. Casper plays all guitar tracks on all songs except one, Lonesome Last Request, where he called in the guitar wizardry of David Grissom ( Allman Brothers, Joe Ely) who co-produced that song.
Casper called on Nico Leophonte (Hal Ketchum) for drums and Glenn Fukunaga (Dixie Chicks) on bass to provide solid yet unbounded rhythms. Additionally on three of the songs, Alex Marrero (Brownout, BoDeans) sits in on percussions. With that deep talent pool already on-board, along with the super strong vocals of Grey Horse, Casper easily recruited three more silver bullets:
Bukka Allen (Joe Walsh, Ian Moore) plays organ, piano, and accordion on the Grey Horse CD, highlighting all but two of the songs
Tommy Detamore (Moe Bandy, Ronnie Milsap), longtime Pedal Steel player for Johnny Rodriguez, actually plays on the two songs made famous by Rodriguez
Warren Hood (Warren Hood Band, Coveters) recorded remotely from the other musicians providing the sensual sounds of the violin
Casper Rawls joined the Austin music scene in the 70s playing with Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley, and Omar Kent Dykes; and then over the years with Toni Price, Doyle Bramhall Sr, Kelly Willis and too many more to list them all. He’s played with and became friends with legends like Buck Owens and James Burton.
During the last several years Casper has hosted Planet Casper, a weekly musical production with different special guests. Though a skilled acoustic player, Casper’s unparalleled talents center around his command of his near-signature white Fender Telecaster equipped with a Parsons/White B-Stringbender System--the Rube Goldberg-looking contraption that by pulling down on the guitar’s neck enables Casper to bend the B string producing steel guitar-like sounds. In 2015, Casper Rawls released his first CD, Brave World, produced by RS Field.
This is the third of a series of releases by Native Country Music for the Grey Horse CD. Pre-order the CD today at GetAustinMusic.com for the July 8 release.
